The Wyoming County Chorale is pleased to announce the release of their CD, A Renaissance Celebration, featuring music from their Spring 2010 concert of the same title. Produced and recorded by Chorale director Carl Shinko, A Renaissance Celebration is a mixture of sacred and secular songs from mid-to-late 16th century Europe. The disc includes recordings by the Wyoming County Chorale, the Wyoming County Chorale Chamber Singers, and and a small recorder consort comprised of musicians from within the choir. The CD was recorded in May & June of 2010 and in April of 2011. Selections include:
Now Is The Month of Maying - a lively English madrigal in 5 parts from the late Renaissance
Ave Maria - a beautiful four-part a cappella setting of the well-known Latin 'Hail Mary' text
Sicut Cervus & Sitivit Anima Mea - gorgeous psalm settings by the master of polyphony in the 1500s, Palestrina
Fair Phyllis - A cheeky and spritely English madrigal with a twist of double entendre
Alas, What Hope of Speeding - an English lament on love and loss
Toutes les nuictz - a bittersweet French setting of a love poem, dating from 1547
Contrapunto bestiale alla mente - 'Counterpoint of the Animals', in Italian, dog, cat, and bird.
CDs will be available for sale at our May 7th, 2011 concert for $15, and later through the Chorale website. All proceeds benefit the Wyoming County Chorale.
